After a brief summer break, the PGA Tour China was back rolling again into the southern area of Guangzhou nearby the port called Nansha. The Guangzhou Open was played at the Nansha Golf Club.
For this event, the layout of the course was adjusted so that 3 of the par 5’s were converted to long par 4’s which certainly made for a good test amidst the extremely hot and humid conditions. The golf course was presented in great condition despite the challenging walk of the hilly layout, cut into the mountains.
This event was not without its drama, during the course of the 4 rounds of the tournament, there were numerous weather stoppages due to heavy rain and lightning in the area as as such, during the first two rounds, I was never able to get any more than 16 holes in in one day. Despite these delays, I eventually managed to post a solid first round even par 69. It was definitely a challenge to keep momentum going as I was technically on the 16th green for over a day before I was able to resume my first round and then roll into 9 holes of my second round before the next delay. Unsure as to whether we would get a 3 round I was able to have a strong finish to my 2nd 9 of my 2nd round and post a 1 under par 68, which would later turn out to be the end of the event. My final result of tied 26th was a relatively pleasing result taking into account all of the challenges presented throughout the week.
My next event will be the Dongguan Open next week.
